Book Market Maven Launch by Jenna Jaxon

Maven-Icon-W-Lettering

There’s a new blog in town that may be of great interest to writers especially, but to readers as well who want to keep abreast of what’s going on currently in the book world. The blog is called Book Market Maven and it’s written by a very good friend of mine, Patricia Green. Trish has been a professional writer for over twenty-five years, turning out diverse works from historical to science fiction to contemporary romances. She knows this business inside-out and does her research thoroughly, so I was thrilled to find she’d come up with a new venture which is dedicated to the book market.

In the introductory post to Book Market Maven, Trish lays out exactly what this blog is going to address: “Authors need to know what’s going on in the publishing business, as well as how to write award-winning stories, books and articles. We all have favorite places to go on the internet, favorite books we read for reference, and favorite novels we try to learn technique from. With Book Market Maven, our goal is to be a bit of a digest for some of the most important writing trends and concepts. Those things will include publisher details, writing how-to, and some novels or reference materials we can all learn from.” For the author who is frantically writing, editing, and promoting (and maybe juggling a full-time job to boot), this blog promises to be a sort of one-stop shopping experience to keep up-to-date with what’s going on out in the business.

Since its advent on January 28th, Book Market Maven has offered posts on book trends in 2015, the rumor about Amazon opening physical stores across the US, advice on writing dialogue, and a new policy at Amazon regarding quality control. Pretty awesome for just one week. The post on trends should be especially helpful for authors who don’t have time to go out and pick up this information from sources across the Internet. As much as I was grateful for the information sitting there in a nice little package, I was unfortunately alarmed by the information itself: romance sales were apparently down 9% in 2015 after an even bigger drop of 11% in 2014.

Not the news I wanted to start my 2016 off with, but I’m glad to know there’s now a place where I can find such information right at my fingertips, just a click away.

You can check out Book Market Maven for yourself at http://www.bookmarketmaven.com/. I think you’ll be glad you did.
