Can anyone give me queer...
Can anyone give me queer fantasy book recs?
Yes! Some of my faves:
Huntress and Ash by Malinda Lo are both great (Ash is a f/f retelling of Cinderella, Huntress is a prequel set in the same world)
Otherbound by Corinne Duyvis (bi girl mc, high fantasty/sci-fi mix)
Clariel by Garth Nix (acearo character)
Pantomime and Shadowplay by Laura Lam (nonbinary, bi/pan, intersex mc)
Also, if you’re into Urban Fantasy, I’d recommend The Lynburn Legacy by Sarah Rees Brennan, which has side bi and lesbian characters
I also didn’t love Carry On because I found it to be bi-erasurey, but YMMV! It was a cute story. :)
Hope this helps, and that you find something you enjoy!
I hope everyone looking for queer fantasy YA has Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst on their TBRs! Shira Glassman has some f/f fantasy as well (NA).
I’m trying so hard not to repeat anything!
Also the Emelan series by Tamora Pierce (queer supporting characters and as one of the main characters gets older she identifies as a lesbian/excellent feminist medieval fantasy series).
Holly Black always has queer supporting characters in her books, particularly in the Modern Faerie series (gay), The Darkest Part of the Forest (gay, bi) and the Coldest Girl in Coldtown (trans, bi). (All urban fantasy/faeriepunk)
The Bane Chronicles (and related books) have fantastic gay, lesbian and bisexual main and supporting characters. (Urban fantasy)
Maggie Stiefvater’s Raven Cycle has a main gay character and a hopefully bi main character (in love fingers crossed!) (Urban fantasy???)
That’s what I can think of off the top of my head!
Edit: wait, wait…
Kristin Cashore’s Graceling/Fire/Bitterblue (bi protagonist in Fire, gay/bi/lesbian supporting characters)
Tamora Pierce’s Provost’s Dog trilogy (feminist fantasy, gay and trans supporting characters)
Ellen Kushner’s Swordspoint, Privilege of the Sword, Tremontaine (have only read first two listed but bi main characters for both)
S. U. Pacat’s Captive Prince trilogy (but of course! Gay/bi main characters)
In Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series (urban/high fantasy) basically all supporting characters are bi including heroine’s love interest.
That’s all I can think of rn without my PC or bookcases to hand. Xx
Agree with all previous recs, plus regarding Sarah Rees Brennan’s Lynburn Legacy series - the bi character goes from supporting to pov character over the trilogy. It’s a fantastic series!
