Chapter Five of PALE DEMON

Anticipation.  It can carry you through an amazing amount of time, be it standing in line at a restaurant, to waiting almost a year for your birthday and perhaps another shot at getting that pony you always wanted.  Some people hate waiting, but I personally have always been a delayed gratification kind of a girl.  (mostly)  The reward is sweeter for the time spent savoring it in my mind.  If that's true, then I might keel over from the coming sugar rush when Pale Demon finally hits the shelves this February 22.

Two and a half years I've been working on this road-trip book, dropping teasers and spoilers to my readers when my anticipation overflowed and spilled out.  These last two months, I've been delighted to share with you the first few chapters of Pale Demon. Here is the last I can give you before Pale Demon officially becomes "real."  It has been a pleasure to bring you these early peeks.  I like anticipation, but sharing something I love is a lot more fun.  Enjoy!

Suz Ms. Harrison, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for the way you put your teasers out (I consider the sneak chapter peeks teasers). Making these offerings allows me to choose how much teasing I will participate in while I anticipate the new book, it leaves me feeling respected.

Also, you never end a book on a cliff hanger, nor are your seeds for the next book too obviously manipulative book sales seeds. This leaves me believing that you are confident enough in your story, and respectful enough of your readers, that you do not need to manipulate us to keep us engaged in your long arcs. Thank you, it leaves me feeling respected.

Usually I dislike teasing and abhor cliff hangers, but the reason is because I see opening a book as a trust between author and reader. I trust that you will deliver the story, or warn me in advance if the book does not encompass the entirety of the story. You, Ms. Harrison, are most adept at creating sense of completion well balanced with anticipation for the ongoing story. I appreciate your efforts in this regard. It leaves me feeling respected.

In short, I'm a fan not only of this wonderful world you've created and the characters that inhabit it but also of the way you treat me, the reader, with respect and not as a tool for book sales.

These are some of the reasons I sing your praises and always make sure to mention The Hallows when I am recommending books and series.

I appreciate your efforts.
