My List of Top Books I Read in 2015

Well I reached my goal of 52 books in 52 weeks, and it wasn't easy. But since unlike some of you, I can't read 252 books in 52 weeks (and you guys are awesome!), my top reads of 2015 list will be smaller.

Here were my favorites, in no particular order:

Top 5 novels:

1. The Croning by Laird Barron
2. Ghost Road Blues (Pine Deep, #1) by Jonathan Maberry
3. Bad Moon Rising (Pine Deep, #3) by Jonathan Maberry
4. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
5. Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4) by Stephen King

Best Audiobook:

Professional Integrity (The Riyria Chronicles, #2.6) by Michael J. Sullivan

I had a reread of The Shining and The Walking Dead compendium 1, which I did not include in these lists due to that fact only.

So... everything here comes with my highest recommendations.

Glenn Rolfe I loved Maberry's Pine Deep Trilogy! My favorite work of his to date.
I saw that you've become a big Barron fan. I can't get into him. Something about his style doesn't work for me. But that's the way it goes, right?
I wonder what my top books would have been if I included non-2015 titles??? I'll have to visit that.

Congrats on all of your success with SEEING EVIL. Keep up the great work.

Jason Parent I know the feeling, Glenn. There are a few authors out there whose styles are really just not for me, though everyone else raves about them. One is a bestseller whose book I disliked so much, I didn't bother reviewing it. What works for one won't always work for another. I wonder if it is better to write to try and appeal to core readers of the genre, to have a broader appeal, or to appeal to personal tastes. Me? I just write the story how I think it should be told - so I guess I write for my tastes?

Thanks for the kind words, and wishing you continued success with BLOOD AND RAIN, and all your other Samhain titles. You will definitely make my list of authors to read this year.

Glenn Rolfe Thanks, Jason.
Yeah, I write to the story and for me. I'm a huge King, Laymon, Little, Ketchum guy. I tend to swim around their styles and hopefully come out with something of my own.

But yeah, I would never chase a trend or try to sell to any specific "reader". You have to write the kind of story that YOU like. I always consider me my number one fan.

Jason Parent Just read your Scribbles. Lots more on the horizon for you! You have the new novel in March, just finished another one, and will have a novella done soon too. Very impressive!

Glenn Rolfe I'm always working on multiple pieces. Some of these were started back in 2012. Every story in its own time.
