Would sometimes referring to a nonbinary person in a novel as just "trans" or "queer" be a problem? Or should their gender be spelled out clearly if ever referenced to avoid confusion or misinterpretation?

“Queer” is a reclaimed slur often used as a personal identity or general umbrella term (e.g. “queer community”); non-binary identities are included under the queer umbrella and can use it for themselves.
