For today’s post, I’m going to share an excerpt from ALIEN ATTRACTION. In this excerpt, Angela has invited Chal over for dinner and a movie. They have already had dinner and are now sitting down for the movie…
A burst of sound filled the room, like the crescendo of a musical motor starting. Thank the gods Angela missed his startled gasp. When the noise faded, she sat beside him, her side pressed against him. Much closer than he’d expected.
As if remembering they’d known each other for a week, she jumped away from him, staring with wide eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” He draped an arm across her shoulders and guided her back to his side. “I like it when you’re close to me.”
She stiffened, radiating the same nervous anticipation she had earlier. “Really?”
He stroked the side of her face. “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here.”
Her fear spiked, but quickly ebbed away as she nestled up to his side, her head resting on his chest. Was she afraid of him? Why? Did she know he wasn’t from Earth? But how would she have found out?
With her relaxed, Chal brushed the thoughts aside. He became engrossed in the movie, a story about a man from Earth falling in love with a woman from another planet. It had to be some kind of sign. “Hmmm.”
Angela glanced up at him, her fingers splayed absently across his stomach. “What?”
“Do you think that’s possible? For someone from Earth to fall in love with a being from another planet?”
“Yeah, of course.” Her words came out so nonchalant, as if relationships with aliens happened all the time.
“Seriously?”
Her body tensed. “I mean, why not? Interracial relationships are much more common. A relationship with an intelligent being from another planet is the next step, right?”
He sure hoped so. Resting his palm on her hip bone, he resisted the urge to scoop her up in his arms and take her to the bedroom. Could living in this part of the world be so easy for his kind? “What about you? Could you fall in love with an alien?”
