It is quiet here today because I am posting elsewhere this morning. Over at GeekMoms, I'm talking about Disney's decision to stop producing princess movies and the implications of that decision, and over on Shrinking Violets we're talking about picking a guiding word for 2011. Hope to see some of you at one of those places or another!

Miss Clark Loved your Disney article - however, what did you think of "Tangled," the last fairytale/princess film?

R.L. LaFevers I haven't had a chance to see it yet, Miss Clark! I had a deadline right up until Christmas, then had family in town. I am dying to watch it, as I heard it did a lot of things right AND was a record opening for a Disney movie!

Did you see it? What did you think?

Miss Clark Yes, I took my siblings to see it and we all loved it. The first Disney film in ages I have so thoroughly enjoyed. I thought it was much closer to a real fairytale. And while Rapunzel may need some help and is definitely naive, there is a reasonable explanation and she more than makes up for that with intelligence, spirit and being a genuinely good person - no spoilt temper tantrums from this princess. If anything, she has had a very lonely, difficult life. I would have liked more in-depth characterization for the three main leads, as well as less insipid songs (they were a rather uninspired bunch of generic pop-Disney tunes, whereas I would have liked a more folktale/fantasy feel, somewhat like a certain dance scene achieved in one scene) and a stronger conclusion. Otherwise, very satisfying and one I'll be buying.

I think you will like it and I'd love to know what you think of it.

Take care:)

Miss Clark Oh, I saw it in 2D as I despise 3D, just so you know.

E Disney is stopping making Princess movies? I read the article...Disney can't just STOP, can they?

message 6: by R.L. (new)

R.L. LaFevers I think Disney was a little surprised by the hue and cry their announcement created. It sounds like they're walking back a bit from their original statement...

E Well, it's good that they're backing off a bit, but I still don't get WHY they would just stop. I mean, alienating boys? Jeepers.
