Cape Disappointment lighthouse. Pacific Ocean, near the Columbia River entrance. There is a Coast Guard station here and they have one of the toughest jobs in the service, helping the commercial ships and fishing boats avoid disaster trying to get past the Columbia Rift into the river. You have to see the turbulence to believe it when the huge fast flowing Columbia River collides with the surge of the Pacific Ocean. Many shipwrecks at the mouth of the Columbia.
