Self-satisfied Sepp Blatter hands over R680 million to SAFA as a reward for a successful world cup
Fifa’s overall profits from the World Cup 2010 are an estimated US $ 3.2 billion coming exclusively from sponsorship deals and television rights. Ticket sales revenue was over R5 billion rand. Part of the deal is to provide a bonus to the host country. Fifa gave a total of about R680 million to South Africa. R130 million helped to finance the building SAFA house. The remaining amount will be put into a trust fund (2010 FIFA Legacy Trust). The goal of the fund is to develop South African football. While this looks generous, it is less than 1% of profits that FIFA made from the 2010 world cup.
