A Snowball’s Chance in…
Everywhere you look there’s news about the environment and climate change.  Every day brings reports of loss of ice pack in the Arctic and Antarctic, warming seas, disappearing rain forests, droughts, worldwide record temperatures, vanishing species, plastic pollution.  You would think it would spur governments and people to act to stop it.
But what are the odds they will?
Basically a snowball’s chance in… the Senate.  Recently, in a vaudevillian move, the chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works took a snowball to the Senate floor as “proof” that climate change is not “real.”  You can’t write fiction that strange!  Scientific studies and evidence, pshaw!  As long as there is snow anywhere, climate change can’t be real.
The environment, climate change, over-population and ecology boil over with issues of politics, religion, morality, human compassion, business and economic growth, and the survival of many species on Earth, including humans.  Reading FOUR, you will find the principal characters faced with these issues, each as a person, each in his own way, each viewing the world through his particular lens, each with his own sense of morality, compassion and existence.
The themes of FOUR may seem dire, but hopefully the characters and the themes are compelling, emotionally and morally.  Maybe we have better than a snowball’s chance in hell in confronting the ecological and culturalLinks
