Sprucing Up the Place

Holy Kschmoly, as I like to say.  This is really happening!  Two weeks ago, I approved the final galleys of Fairest of the Faire, and over the weekend, I approved the cover art.  My release date is yet to be determined, and could be weeks or months from now.  I thought editing was hard.  But I think waiting for a release date is even harder!

I want to go out and shout to the world “HEY LOOK I HAVE A BOOK COMING OUT!  IT HAS MY NAME ON IT AND EVERYTHING!”, but I am told that I must be patient and wait.  Too much announcing too early, when the book isn’t even yet available, will have potential readers forgetting about me, not remembering me.

So, to keep myself busy, as if I have nothing else to do, I am busy building my media kits (one for bloggers and online sources, one for bigger media outlets), revamping my website, getting my social media up and running, and finding people to write reviews.  In other words, there is a lot of drilling, sanding, polishing, and vacuuming going on!

And somewhere in there, I need to write another book, too.  I’m finding that to be the hardest part of all.  I have some ideas, but nothing fleshed out enough to work with, so there has been some project-hopping.  I think I’ve finally settled on an idea, but it is missing some plot, so I’m going to have to work hard to get it written.  I’ve set a deadline of end of June to have the story’s first draft written.  I work better with deadlines, but when I set the deadlines myself, that doesn’t always go well.  It is easy to get distracted with other projects and activities, especially as summer is approaching.

But, it’s nose-to-the-grindstone time, and if I have to light my butt on fire to get it done, then that’s what I’ll have to do!
