V for Vow
For today's post linked to the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, I chose to write a poem about a vow someone could make to their partner.


The Vow

I’ll make a vow
To love you eternally and not just now
And while I can’t promise that I won’t make you cry
I promise I’ll wipe away each tear I cause to fall
And turn every frown into a smile and happy sigh

I’ll make a vow
To nourish and protect you and let you grow
And while I’ll also cling to you like a vine
I promise I won’t hinder your upward climb
And celebrate each success of yours as if it were mine

I’ll make a vow
To serenade you with love songs beneath your window
And while I might also sing a sad song or two
I promise that all my ballads are reserved for you
And that I’ll play them on my heart strings too

I’ll make a vow
To swim along with you even against the flow
And while I might drown you in my dedication
I promise I’ll also be the life buoy of assurance
And find for your afflictions the right medication

I’ll make a vow
To rejoice and let my feelings for you show
And while I might seem ruled by an obsession
I promise I will forever treasure and revere you
And let you be my master instead of my possession

I’ll make a vow
To be by your side through every high and low
And while I might even sometimes pull you down
I promise I’ll also build a lofty palace for you
And adorn your head with my love’s shiny crown

I’ll make a vow
To love you eternally and not just now
And while my love for you might not be enough
I promise I’ll give you all of myself and more
And be there for you when the going gets tough

I’ll make a vow
That I’ll never break
And that’s the only promise
That I’ll ever make
