Bookmarks: Keeping My Right Place

Right now, I have several cardboard bookmark, such as these, on my nightstand along with my Kindle e-reader which uses a different sort of a bookmark. The physical bookmarks are the ones I've picked up in my travels. One of the bookmarks is a complimentary one from a local used bookstore that has sadly gone out of business. The other bookmarks I really don't know how we accumulated. Perhaps the public library gave them out to the patrons. Or maybe my wife or I ran across the bookmarks in a book we that we were reading whether it was borrowed or bought used. But the bookmarks were meant to serve the useful purpose of keeping our place in a book, so how can I discard such item no matter how tattered it has become? Some of the bookmarks I've seen are decorative pieces of art making them into keepsakes. Of course, anything handy that is flat can be used as a bookmark, which I prefer to be used rather than folding the page or dog-earring the page to mark the reader's place. So, I expect the bookmarks will remain on my nightstand until I get back to reading a good book again when I'll make good use of one bookmark.
