Hookers, harlots and Hell on Heels
There are undoubtedly a few hookers in San Diego (although I believe the preferred nomenclature is either “ladies of the night” or “sex workers”). Hey, it’s a military town, and the reputation of single seamen on shore leave remains salty, despite the sanitized Gaslamp Quarter.
Harlots, too, are in high demand. In fact, a Belgian Extra beer by the name of The Harlot from Societe Brewing Co. was named by the Brewing Network in 2013.
But what we’re really here to talk about today, my horny hotties, is Hell on Heels, another hifalutin’ burlesque troupe here in San Diego.
Voted Best Theatre Group in San Diego in 2009 by Channel 10’s A-List, the group performs vintage burlesque acts paying homage to the 1920s through the 1950s.
Current troupe members include co-owner Martini Bombshell, along with Cherry Poppa, Tina Triumph, Lulu Minx, Gardenia Mae, Milly Marie and Core D’Lux.
These ladies love to shimmy and shake, bump ‘n’ grind, fan their feathers, twirl their tassels and set it all to a little mood music to make you feel good.
They’ve performed with New York’s Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque On The Go-Go, as well as title holders Ruby Champagne, Anita Cookie and Holly Dai.
You may have also seen them opening for musical acts like Richard Cheese, Mike Ness, Cash’d Out or Los Straitjackets.
