I’m working on the Kalbrandt Institute stories today. My earlier thoughts about making it a frame story are coming together nicely. Here is a snippet from Martin Schultz’ report on a haunting he investigated in 1985:
Mr MacDonald coughed into his hand. “So, you’re here to get rid of her?”
“Not necessarily,” Martin said. “My organisation respects that the house being haunted is what draws tourists to stay with you, so if we can find out why your grey lady has been out of sorts and stabilise the situation, there is no need to exorcise her. Besides, your budget doesn’t cover a psychic doing that research, which is where my expertise comes in.”
“What expertise is that, if I may ask?”
“Sound recordings. The magnetic tape used in music and VHS cassettes records more than just the audio and visual spectrum that humans are aware of. I have modified my radio and microphones to record such sounds and make them audible upon playback. That way I can hear if your grey lady has been in the room.”
The old man scowled. “You’ll know. You won’t need any fancy equipment to tell you she’s around. Not these days.”
