I just had a very long ( monthlong ongoing) discussion with someone who does promotional work. It was insightful and eye-opening, about how to harness the power of social networking. I typed up notes, and am willing to pass along the info if interested. Places like FB and twitter, should mostly serve as a portal, post your blog entries/ links to them, and updates. But generally, not the place to linger-loiter:) and yeah, it is a soul-drain.. not to mention a downright scary article I just read about HOW MUCH data people can mine, even from public profile info- right down to facial recognition programs to match your face with your info. And this wasn't conspiracy-paranoia writing. fortunately, I use my horse as my profile pic.. I wonder what kind of data-mining that creates... maybe he's been visiting those online dating sites behind my back? would explain the weird SPAM I always get:) But thanks for the input, re goodreads v Facebook as a portal and hub. goodreads definitely gets ME reading more. Now all I need is a site that gets me writing more. :)
