Aw, thank you Heather. (Also, yay a comment!) Like you, I tend to follow my gut/heart, and wouldn't be happy forcing myself to write for anything but the love of it.
I love sampling different genres, but I can also spend years in a genre cave and not look outside, so I understand why some readers just won't consider it.
Re: the steam; my thoughts exactly. I like sexy times in my UF, so why not add a dash to my sci-fi too? :D

That funk you were in? How it wouldn't let go until you listened to the voice from within and took a new and different path? That speaks volumes to me. Once you decided to flow with this sci-fi idea, you made a similar start in terms of how you began your Veil series, and suddenly found you were flooded with ideas that you could barely keep up with!
How thrilling is that?
And yeah, you're a bit scared, you're nervous but these things often go hand in hand with excitement and exploration...
That huge grin on your face? That's what's telling you the risk is worth it. You can't know the outcome or how people will respond (none of us do for sure with the things we create) but that passion you're feeling indicates that this is something you both need and want to write - because it feels right.
I believe that if you try to stifle something that is flowing so powerfully inside you, you'll likely regret it. At the very least, it's worth giving it a shot. These characters sound like they've got a lot to share with you and chances are good that you're going to have a blast on this journey...
Good luck and have fun, Pippa! :)

Hi Renee. You're so right. Trying to force the process clearly doesn't work. That's good, as it means the magic is still there. I think I can get bogged down with the business, and sometimes forget that it's my gut feeling that got me here, and my gut knows what it's doing (mostly ;) )
If I didn't do this, I'd regret it. And I don't like regrets.
Thank you so much for the support.
I'm so glad you wrote about this. I'm still finishing my first fantasy novel, doing the final edits. And meanwhile, I have all these ideas about a speculative fiction novel...voices in my head, and the whole works. All I can say is, can't wait to read Girl From Above.

Thank you, Alice. I guess it all depends what's important to us, as writers. This story (Girl From Above) wanted out. My gut knew it. It just took me a while to listen.
The best of luck with your fantasy novel. You're on the homeward stretch. So close!
Some of your readers may skip it, but some will probably love it AND it will probably draw a wider fan base.
Can't wait to read it! I love sci-fi, and there's so little of that that has steam too. I think the mix could be awesome!
