The last Templar Grand Master

On March 18, 1314, the last Grand Master of the Templars, Jacques de Molay, and Geffroi de Charnay were burnt at the stake on an island in the Seine, in one of the worst travesties of justice in the MA. The other day we were talking about the people that Dante condemned to his Inferno. What a shame he did not include the French king Philippe IV. I am no Templar scholar, not even close, but I know some of my readers are very knowledgeable about the Order, and if they’d like to elaborate upon Jacques de Molay’s tragic fate, I am sure we’d all find that interesting.

David Elkin Sadly, people in power becoming greedy is the short and ugly synopsis. There is a lot to the Templars not understood, but myths have certainly abounded.

Excellent summary here; http://www.catholic.com/magazine/arti...

Great coverage (somewhat sensational) of the end of the Templars here:

Charlene I can't hit the 'like' button because it's such a sad and awful event in our history. I'm currently reading an advance copy of The Holy Lance by Andrew Latham, first in a Templar series which takes place during the Third Crusade. I'm even less of a scholar than you on the Templars, Sharon, but early reviews of the book indicate it presents an accurate portrayal of the Templars and of the crusades in the 12th century. It's brutal and bloody, but I'm enjoying it.

Sharon Andrew and I are pen-pals, Charlene, and I promised him I'd post about the publication of his book on Facebook. I suggested we wait till next week, though, since this week is likely to be All Richard III and any other news will be drowned out!

Fantastic! Good idea to wait with the Richard III events. I'm doing a book promotion for him on my blog on March 30th.
