Aforementioned: aphorisms and questions for 2015

A civil society relies upon the ability to responsibly impugn government with impunity.

Picture Does this post belong in a blog about the collapsing biosphere and what to do about it?
Of course it does. The more governments arrogate arbitrary power to themselves -  with whatever excuse - the more difficult it will become to work together to solve the real problems that face us. Bills such as C-51 in Canada are extremely old-fashioned. They look backward; they are intended to preserve the status quo, no matter what the consequence. Canada should be leading the world-wide efforts to improve the future of our grandchildren and their co-inhabitants of the biosphere. For much of the 21st century it has followed a corporate agenda aimed at a bottom-line economy of now that is turn based upon an impossible dream of growth.
