Me, Myself & I by Zoey Hart
First of all, I have been arguing with myself about this project for some time now and here’s how it pretty much went:
Yes! Put a book together with a bunch of poems. It will be fun. They go over well enough on social media, so why not?
Then…
No! What in the hell are you thinking? This is not a good idea. Don’t put poems from your teenage self in this book!
After some encouraging words from great friends, obviously the “go for launch” side won or you wouldn’t be reading this. And even though “death to poetry book” side bowed out gracefully, it does still try to sneak in.
But enough about all that, let’s get to the fun stuff. What’s inside Me, Myself & I.
When I was a teenager, I wrote poems with a friend all the time when we should have been listening in class or doing homework. We would write about boys, friendship, family and of course, the horrible teenage breakups, that at the time, we were sure was the worst day of our lives. And lucky for you, I kept them all.
So I decided to put them in this book. What a great idea…Until I read them. They aren’t horrible per say, just very girly and needy. So I picked six that I liked, ones that I could tweak and most important, ones that I wouldn’t be too embarrassed to have others read.
Now, I also put five in that I wrote recently and haven’t shared anywhere. And also, one is a collaboration with Cameron Lincoln that we did just for this book. (Speaking of Cameron, didn’t he do an amazing job on the cover!!!)
Also, a couple of poems that have already been posted and some have been edited just for this project.
So here’s a recap, six old, five new, one collaboration and a handful of others for a grand total of twenty-seven poems.
There are some things I need to finish before I hit that little publish button but for those of you wondering, it will be out this week, so stay tuned.
