A discussion of de-cluttering closets and forgiveness
It happens close to the holidays and again in spring and at the start of school. A few times a year, I annoy my children. I ask them to go through their toys, books and clothes. Before the Christmas and birthday gifts flood their rooms, I strongly encourage (OK, push) them to get rid of old stuff to make room for the new.
It is a spiritual practice. Letting go is more than Disney song lyrics. It means when we let go of the old we are open up to the new.
Teaching my children to eliminate or throw out what no longer serves them makes room for new, greater gifts to materialize. Kids suddenly appreciate their toys and clothes; especially when they can get to them on a more orderly shelf. Children seem to notice and play with what they previously had taken for granted…the rest of the article.
