While there, I saw an ambitious adaptation of the work of a well known author in the hands of a well known director, with a strong cast of players that unfolded over the course of two and a half sometimes meandering hours.

As we watch Joaquin Phoenix���s shambling, stoned detective saunter aimlessly through a labyrinthine plot in 1970s LA, it���s easy to see why Robert Altman���s The Long Goodbye has been mentioned so frequently in relation to Inherent Vice; but this is uniquely a Paul Thomas Anderson picture, another expression of his formidable artistry and singular vision.

This movie was brilliant. This book is definitely on my list!

Inherent Vice is built around sensation, around a drug-induced haze not created through clever visual tricks, but rather through a purposefully incomprehensible plot.

������������������������: Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest is a weird comedy that contains some really funny and stunningly original scenes, but it’s also way too long and way too complicated.
