This is more worrying than the Chalie Hebdo incident

Picture taken from Nasri Ali’s Facebook

I am rained with mixed emotions upon witnessing the shocking footage of decently dressed hijabi girls desirably hugging and be hugged by fair skinned skinny men who knows only to sing and dance.

I don’t know what kind of feeling should I feel?

Should I be happy of the moment? Singers meeting their fans. Star-struck fans are enjoying their ‘special’ meeting. Something normal.

Should I be sorry? Maybe this is somewhat of a mistake done by confused little girls caught in the moment? They didn’t expect things to be so far.

Should I worry? The young generation is in the dark of who they aspire to be. Well they are not entirely at fault, as we fail to offer something better than gross hedonism.

Should I be cautious of any religious conspiracy here? I leave that to the religious authorities.

I think I’ll go for the second and third interpretation.

They made a ‘mistake’

I want to believe that, the girls, they made a mistake. Yes, they made a mistake. A deadly mistake.

I am sure we all are star-struck by any singer, any boy-band, any actor, any poet regardless of race or religion. I love songs by Coldplay, Eminem, Lowkey, Immortal Technique, Akala, Linkin Park and the list goes on.

And if we were to have any moment to be with them, we might fail to suppress our hype. I’m don’t know, I’m trying to understand why the girls did what they did.

They were carried away too much they forgot what they were doing. They didn’t saw what was coming, the inevitable impending bad news. They didn’t know such mobile recording would be spread when it was an ‘up-close and personal’ mini-concert.

Some clerics said it was broadcasted live on TV, no it wasn’t. Please set your facts straight, O Ustaz.

I have seen with my own two eyes from the audience, niqabist roaring and jumping as they see Maher Zain, an ‘Islamic’ singer enters.  I cannot imagine how the niqabist would react if they were to be on stage with Maher Zain.

I don’t believe that criticizing, lambasting the girls for their mistake can bring better days. I see them as teenage girls tripping over a rock and fell down. They have a bright future to compensate their mistakes. They have lots of time to be better women in the future.

What if one out of the 3 girls in the recording wins a Nobel Prize? What if they become a national pride in let’s say activism one day?

They did something wrong, why do you have to prolong the case? Why do you have to post, share, tweet, retweet? Why do you have to judge them, like you are saints free from mistakes?

We all have done something dark, something too much for the world to handle. But the difference between us and the girls are that, no one recorded us when we were ‘performing’ that dark deed.

Our dark secret is kept safe from the people.

Who is to blame?

Teenagers are often confused of who they should be? Who should they follow? What kind of dressing should they wear? What kind of future should they plan?

My mom, always reminds me “The adolescent stage is a stage of identity searching.”

We all went through or going through or will go through this phase. We have stumbled, made mistakes along the road and with those mistakes we learn more about the meaning of life. What makes us a person. Makes us a unit in society and all of us have to play our role.

And I believe in this quote by Professor X in X-Men Days of Future Past “Just because someone stumbles and loses their way, it doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.”

A quote that makes us see teenagers with love and they need help, they need guidance not blasphemous remarks, not public shaming.

They have stumbled, they have wronged, but they will prosper.

Because what they have done wrong is not entirely their fault. They can’t be blamed for what they have done. We have to blame what we offer to them?

What are the movies we produce?

Movies depicting gangsters, ‘Islamic’ witty love, cheap comedy.

What kind of homegrown movie series we feature every week?

Domestic violence, problematic marriage, polygamy, husband-wife affairs.

What kind of homegrown reality shows appealing now?

Cheap stand up comedies, singing.

What kind of books offered in bookstores?

Refer to the picture above.

What are the most sold out newspapers?

Newspapers with gossip.

And now we blame the girls like we have done nothing wrong?

I smell escapism.
