Year End Magic
Do you believe in magic? I’m not talking Ronald McDonald or even David Copperfield, but I’m talking about the spirit of this time of year and the magic that seems to infiltrate itself into many of us. The holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, etc.) seem to inspire us all each year—and it’s timeless.
I personally love this time of year. The decorating, the cooking, the baking, the giving…Yes, we do have moments of idiocy such our trampling of each other during Black Friday shopping—that’s one thing internet shopping will avoid! But in general, when we take a moment to step back and just relax, we find that we are a lot more tolerant, a lot more generous and a lot more inspired during this time of year.
As we near the end of the year and start gearing up for all of those resolutions we’ll surely keep come 2015, I can’t help but reflect on 2014 and the moments that made it great. This is the magic I’m referring to, the one that helps remind us of all the things we are thankful for and what is most meaningful to each of us. As a writer, I love taking this time to create a more inspiring environment that makes me productive. This year, the inspiration is there but the time is not. Still, I also realize that this won’t always be the case.
What about you all, how do you see this time of year? Does it make you feel productive or quite the opposite?
Happy writing this week!
