Ann said, "Because she was so old, I just assumed she broke a hip or something and got addicted to painkillers. She was a heroin addict who got clean in prison in the '80s. For ten years she juggled being a stay at home mom with being a heroin addict who wrote bad checks, shoplifted, stole from her friends, and forged prescriptions to feed her habit."
"If she was a heroin addict, why was she forging prescriptions?" Liam asked.
"She sold the pills to pay for heroin. She got caught selling Valium to her son's teenage friends. One of them overdosed and died. She told the kid's parents the world was better off without him. What's ironic is she almost died from an overdose in prison."
"And now she's a sweet old lady," Michaela said. "Nice."
"She spends a lot of her time volunteering for charities," Ann said.
Today I will be grateful for people who couldn't drown, burn, or poison their kind hearts.
