Temptation II

"Speaking of temptation," I said to James, "are you going to New York to see your dad?"

"He's coming here," James said. "I won't have to go anywhere near the places I smoked crack."

"You must be relieved," Emu said. "Even though you say you're good at resisting temptation." His tone suggested he wasn't convinced James was as virtuous as he claimed to be.

The group talked about temptations they no longer faced. Michaela was being drug tested as part of her house arrest. "Knowing you might face the breathalyzer takes away a lot of the urge to drink," she said.

Ann said that as she was starting to enjoy life again, her craving for cocaine was disappearing. Being away from his parents removed a lot of temptation from Liam's life. Emu said that he was so busy with school and work, he didn't have time to get into much trouble.

Only Julie complained of still being tempted. She described a fantasy that started with a glass of wine and ended with a maxed out credit card and a stunned vice cop.

Today I will be grateful for temptations I don't have to face.
