Life Offline
It has been a while since I’ve posted a blog. There are a couple of reasons for my absence and lack of updating the website.
First of all, we bought a house, with property, and have been busy with the move. The move happened at the same time as school was starting for my kids. They had to switch to new schools which made things even more crazy as I tried to get them registered and find out about busses and all that fun stuff.
The second reason is that I have not hooked up our internet, we are running off our phones. I chose to do it this way because we can only get satellite internet out here and also because I eliminated all video games from my household (except hubby) and severely cut the television hours.
What I’ve discovered by taking away internet, video games and television is that my whole family, including myself, are more productive in everything else.
First off, my kids play outside, using their imaginations! They are also reading (Thank you, God!) and their behavior at home and school is ten times better than it was.
My husband never really watched much television, his video game times are limited to a couple of evenings on his days off and he rarely uses the internet except on his phone.
Me, on the other hand, have discovered that I can get soooo much more done when the internet is not accessible. Yes, I can get online if I need to, but I don’t do it unless I need to, which has resulted in so much more writing getting done!
In addition to that, I am a lot more active. I have this huge yard that needs taken care of and my usual housework, so I am constantly on the move when I’m not writing. I found I can do a ton of things off line (like write this blog) and then upload it later.
I do have help with my FB pages and a few other things, but for the most part I don’t need to be online at all.
I like it this way. Oh, did I mention I also have more time for reading, since I’m getting more writing done?
I am happy with the choices we have made for the family since the move. It has been a positive change for everyone.
