"I love someone," Julie said to nobody in particular. "I have loved him since we were little kids. He lived two houses down from me."
"Why aren't you with him now?" Emu asked.
"We broke up a little over a year ago," Julie answered. "He said he couldn't watch me pour my life down the drain. He got very angry about me wasting my talent as a writer."
"So are you getting back together?" Ann asked.
"He heard I was getting help. He's not seeing anyone. I told him when I have a lot more clean time, I'd love to get back together with him."
"And?" Ann asked.
"He said he'd wait for me," Julie said.
"I couldn't tell you all the reasons I've given him to forget about me, but he hasn't."
Today I will be grateful for people who could have turned their backs on me, but didn't.
