And the winner is....?

Not much to report on today in terms of medieval history, so I’ll pass along some Game of Thrones news for the upcoming season scheduled to return in four years or so No Bran at all in this season, and no Hodor either. His storyline won’t figure in the plot. As long as Tyrion is front and center, I won’t complain; I was a very unhappy camper when he disappeared altogether from the fourth book.
And here is an article about what are supposed to be the 50 best American cities in which to live. I can’t say I agree with all of the choices, but it makes interesting reading. If I had a ton of money, I’d chose my favorite city, San Francisco, with a vacation home in Honolulu, another city I really like. With frequent visits to New Orleans, for although I would not want to live there again (a climate so humid it feels like downtown Atlantis, and flying cockroaches) it remains one of the most intriguing and exotic cities on the planet, at least IMHO.

Iset Well that is interesting if odd news. I'm reading Dance With Dragons right now, which is contemporary with Feast For Crows, (so, the upcoming season, in other words) and, well, without giving away any spoilers... there are Bran chapters... so... this is odd.

Nicole Diamond ton of money being the key here LOL

Sharon It always is, Nicole....sigh.
Isis, I don't know how accurate this is, but I read that HBO was going to combine parts of both the 4th and 5th novels in the next season.

Iset Yes, I thought they were going to do that, since Feast for Crows only tells us half of the characters' stories, and Dance With Dragons the other half of the cast, it didn't make sense that they would do them separately - because then we'd only see Sam, Jaime, Cersei, and Dorne in this next season, and wouldn't see Dany, Tyrion, and the rest until the following season! That seemed silly, so I assumed they would combine Books 4 and 5, and do perhaps the first half of both those books, to weave the storyline back together.

But then... why no Bran? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.

IIRC, Bran's story line in the show has pretty much caught up with the books so they don't really have anymore Bran scenes they could include in the next season. I'm sure they accelerated his timeline in the show because the actor playing Bran is very quickly getting very mature. His voice has dropped, he's getting a lot taller, pretty soon he'll be shaving. It's problematic when you have a full grown man playing a child, especially one who is supposed to be easily carried around by another grown man.

So if you've seen Season 4 but haven't read Dance With Dragons yet, there are actually some spoilers in the show regarding Bran's scenes. They are really jumping around in the timelines and have already used scenes from DWD.

In any case, I think until the next book comes out and we (hopefully) find out more about Bran, I think the show is done with Bran because the actor is getting too old. Not sure how they will handle it if the next book has more Bran scenes and the character still hasn't aged.

Iset Thanks for that. I'm up to date with the tv show but reading DWD right now - so that would explain it. Also you phrased that very well without giving away spoilers, even in the spoiler tags (unless someone isn't up to date with the show OR the books - then, don't open those tags!).

Reading DWD right now is somewhat bittersweet, I must say. The knowledge that once I've finished reading it it'll be goodness knows how long till Winds of Winter comes out!
