REALLY?

Do you have photos on your work desk; family, friends, pets, vacation?  Completely normal, right?  Well, apparently not.  Where I work everyone has plants, photos, trinkets made by their children, etc.  All those little touches that make our cubicles more homey and less of a prison.  When I was hired I was told to "make your area your own."

I brought a silk plant, photos  of my son and daughter-in- law, some of my dogs and yes...photos of my book covers.  These were 4x6, arranged in a cluster atop my printer, which most of the time makes them behind me.  The most risque thing in any of those covers is a bare man's torso.

I do not ask people to buy my books, I do not draw these covers to anyone's attention, I do not hand out business cards.  The covers are merely "there"  I am proud of my 5 books!  Wouldn't you be?  If I am asked if I wrote them, I say, yes, and that is it.  Period.  If I'm asked if that is my son, DIL, dog in the photo, I say, yes.

Yesterday I was asked to remove my cover photos because someone might think I was pedaling my wears or be offended.  Of course, I complied.  I love my job and want to keep it.  Next week I'll bring home the plant, kids photos, and those of my dog.  I don't want to take any chances!

BTW, I'm the receptionist, in case that matters.

Has this happened to you? Fair or not, what say you all?
