Odie, an Innkeeper and central character to MacPhee’s stories, is a strong man with a heart of gold, a leaning toward pacifism and what seems like a permanent state of bachelorhood, about which he is not happy. He runs a small inn, on a well-traveled route in the community of Wellsville in the kingdom of Norme, inhabited mostly by humans with rather ordinary lives. The inn is central to most of the “insignificant” characters in the stories.
