somebody's rediscovered intellectualism and the socratic method of arriving at truths...refreshing, gentle approach to the urgent need to address this holocaust of species other than ourselves and perpetrated daily by each one of us -- an unnecessary and unwise mass destruction of Lives and our environment, a monumental devastation which is indeed happening second by second in America...

we are not the superior species after all. a reasoned approach to an ethical question looming large!

Speciesism: The Movie Synopsis

Modern farms are struggling to keep a secret. Most of the animals used for food in the United States are raised in giant, bizarre “factory farms,” hidden deep in remote areas of the countryside. Speciesism: The Movie director Mark Devries set out to investigate. The documentary takes viewers on a sometimes funny, sometimes frightening adventure, crawling through the bushes that hide these factories, flying in airplanes above their toxic “manure lagoons,” and coming face-to-face with their owners.

But this is just the beginning. In 1975, a young writer published a book arguing that no justifications exist for considering humans more important than members of other species. It slowly began to gain attention. Today, a quickly growing number of prominent individuals and political activists are adopting its conclusions. They have termed the assumption of human superiority speciesism. And, as a result, they rank these animal factories among the greatest evils in our history. Speciesism: The Movie brings viewers face-to-face with the leaders of this developing movement, and, for the first time ever on film, fully examines the purpose of what they are setting out to do.

Susie Sexton step by baby step...evolution....may this, the most important of all steps (hoping for gigantic leaps!)ever, start its soar toward fruition...this film provides a guidebook as to how to urge the human species on board toward assuring that while we are all on this planet we CAN see to it that it becomes the only heaven any of us (all species) can ever know...right here in the moment which is what counts..,no more suffering and constant serenity and peace. (pardon my mixed metaphors!) thanks, beth and roy and sylvie!

Susie Sexton we are going to watch again...like a seminar we need to concentrate on more fully in a repeat...not an NFL instant replay of a huddle or fumble...a much more important topic...the hopeful promise of a world in harmony...within our reach. all that is needed is acknowledgement of the huge problematic tragedy we in far too many instances are ignoring...and we must accept our collective guilt. now is the time...this very second...by all of us.

Susie Sexton well, I mean every word...the film had me sobbing twice...a testimonial from a young fellow about coming face to face with this ever-present holocaust and how badly it can hurt to change one's clueless view of the planet to consciousness of all of the horror...but until that process we are part of the problem...we are contributors to this constant nightmare, this destruction, this cruelty. another was an outtake of a brilliant animal rights professor who spoke of totem poles and their significance to the American Indian and to see that sentient being you most connect with (as you visualize that totem pole) whenever you wish to stop trying to save this earth and all that are presently living on it -- whatever species. thus, once enlightened, you'll never give up...not ever. every minute of the rest of your life.
