Days of Pilgrimage
Gen 47:9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage. Gen 47:10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
Our days on earth are few and evil. How true. If only we can understand this great truth, we will place far less emphasis on them and consider more our eternal future. We will see ourselves as pilgrims and not settlers. We will recognize our true home … our Heavenly home. 130 years is not a short period from an earthly perspective, but when we consider the eternal future ahead of us …all our times on earth become truly insignificant. Yet our sojourn is not to be wasted, for it determines how our eternity will be. We will be termed as slothful if our work is not done and we are yet to be able to receive God’s well done.
Indeed it is a blessing to be able to know that there is still a lot yet to be done from God’s assessment. Many overestimate their accomplishments and a few are deluded that they have done much good. Jacob says evil and few have the days of my life been, as he proceeds to be a blessing to Pharaoh. May we ever lean on the mercies of God to receive help to complete our work be it amongst the heathen or in the body of Christ. Many Christians may not see clearly that God has given them assignments not just in the Church, but in the secular arena as well.
Also remember that this is a pilgrimage, that there will one day be a journey home, a reporting back to the father … a presentation of accomplishments. How will it be for you on that great appointed day? Will you be empty handed? When God asks … did you bless X and Y …how will you answer?
Reflect on your life as a pilgrim and the people and situations you have been sent to bless – and whether you did so. Sadly we focus too much on ourselves and how it was for us and the personal progress we want to make … but I discern God created us and sent us ….more for others …to be blessing to them while we may endure our own process of being perfected for our roles in touching the lives of others. I remember so many hymn writers … many who lived many painful lives but all are blessed by the evergreen poetry they left behind. Take your focus off yourself … seek grace to be salt and light for others.
Song.
I know there is another fellowship in Heaven 4ce.
Prayer: Lord, help my selfishness … help me to be an instrument of blessing to others. Amen
