What Are You Reading This Summer?
Summer is a great time to catch up on your reading.
During the season you are probably too caught up with your business and rarely have time to raise your head above the urgent and important stuff that needs to be done in order to read and learn new things.
However, when you don’t take time to get away from working IN your business, you are left behind. In today’s business world you can’t allow this to happen to you as business is changing by the minute.
You need to keep up with what is taking place in the world and what new trends are taking place. It doesn’t mean that you need to jump immediately on the next trend, but you need to become aware of what is going on in your industry.
Books are your friends in becoming an expert in your field. I’ve learned this important lesson long time ago.
When I was in University we used to get every year in the summer a list of 12 or 15 books they wanted us to read before the year started.
I didn’t have the money at the time to buy all those imported books, so I went to the university’s library and sat there for 3 weeks from 9:00 in the morning till they closed in the evening – reading every book on the list and some others I found on the shelves.
A whole new world opened up to me.
A few weeks later, when I started my studies, I was surprised (actually shocked) to discover that most of my fellow students didn’t bother to read even one of the recommended books.
The result was that when I was studying I got assignments and projects to run in my field, due to the fact that my professors realized I was up-to-date with the latest information in the field due to my reading, while most of my fellow students had to wait three more years before they even got any chance to practice what they have learned.
By that time I had three years experience in the field and I was hiring my friends to work for me….
This was one of the most valuable lessons I learned early on in my career as an entrepreneur – a lesson which I have continued to implement since then: “keep on reading at least one business book a week – no excuses!”
I believe that after all the personal experiences I had, the seminars I followed and the mentoring I got from successful entrepreneurs – good books provided me with some of the best inspiration ever…
This is the reason why I urge you that this summer spend time catching up on reading some good business books that would inspire you and support your business in growing.
Here are 3 books that I highly recommend you read this summer if you didn’t read them yet:
Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think – Peter Diamandis
This book for me s the ultimate answer for all those who are still living in scarcity mentality and predicting the end of the world and focusing on negativity.
It’s a book that shows us that we actually live in a period of history where we would be able to solve problems that before were never solved, such as shortage of water, hunger and diseases. It’s the ultimate achievable optimism, which we all need to have as entrepreneurs.
What Would Google Do – Jeff Jarvis
Even though this book was written in 2009 it is still one of my favorites in understanding what is the New Economy and what business is all about. It taught me on what to focus in business and what makes a company a GREAT one.
Start with a Why – Simon Sinek
If ever there was a book that explained how to think strategically and what is the essence of business and of GREAT companies it would be this one. From all the business books that I’ve read this is the one that not only spoke to my head but also to my heart.
Now I’m curious...
