Join in with our Susan Cooper reading group tomorrow!

This month’s Nosy Crow Reading Group is taking place tomorrow and we’d love for you to join in!

We’ll be discussing the Carnegie-shortlisted Ghost Hawk, by Susan Cooper. In his review of the book for The Guardian, Marcus Sedgwick writes that, “moving and long lasting, this is rich storytelling, and is probably Susan Cooper’s finest work so far”. High praise indeed… but do you agree? As usual, we’ve prepared a few questions in advance to get everyone thinking – here’s some of what we might be talking about:

1. Who do you think this book is for? Is it a children’s book?

2. What story is Susan Cooper trying to tell?

3. What do you make of the plot of Ghost Hawk? Did it feel contrived, or convincing?

4. Is it problematic that this story has been written by an English-born American, rather than a Native American author?

5. What effect do you think the mid-narrative switch of focus has on the book? Do you think it “works”?
