Quick Review- Khaled Hosseini - AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED

Expecting a triangle love affair story, but it turned out to be a depressing heroic tale. Setting in Kabul, Afghanistan. Nabi, a handsome chauffeur of a wealthy married couple, Suleiman and Nila Wahdati, sacrificed his life to serve Suleiman, his master. First, he was in love with Nila, a beautiful mistress. I anticipated it would be a love affair between them, but I was disappointed to find out that Suleiman, his master was a gay who loved Nabi so dearly and robbed Nabi's life. When Nila left Suleiman, Nabi hoped Nila would contact him, but she decided not to. So, Nabi served Suleiman for more than 50 years with dignity, loyalty and humanity without a sexual contact (while waiting for Nila's letter). It was merely his devotion to his master and considered it as the purpose of his life although he resented at the beginning. Nabi was a hero in a story of "And Mountains Echoed" The theme is common that the weak is the victim of the circumstance.
