IWSG: New Insecurities
It's the first Wednesday of the month, and that means it's time for the Insecure Writers Support Group!
If you've not yet checked out the group ... what are you waiting for? Click here for the complete details! The people are awesome, and the posts are inspiring.
As for me? Today, I'm experiencing a whole new level, or stage, or color of insecurity. I'm taking galleys (a.k.a. Advance Reader Copies) of my debut novel, Who R U Really? , to local bookstores.
It's a really weird feeling ... because REGARDLESS of the fact that I have been a top recruiter for big company, been a very successful salesperson, and spoken in front of thousands of people ... the idea of hand delivering a copy of my debut novel to a bookstore is FREAKING ME OUT!
I've created this story. I've written it, revised it, polished it, and repeated the process for so long ... and now I'm supposed to say to a stranger, "Here's my baby. Like it. Buy it. Sell it ... for me ... someone you've never met before and have no reason to like on the spot ... except for the fact that I showered and fixed my hair and wore a new shirt." *insert nervous smile*
So ... please ... wish me luck. I'm off to the bookstores. I've mapped out the driving route. And if I'm successful, not only will these stores stock my book, but they'll also let me come back for events ... and then the "events" tab on my website will have actual content!
Oh, and trust me, I will be eating comfort food when I've finished the route today. Daydreaming about what food I'll choose will help me get through the stress of exposing my innermost soul to complete strangers.
Enjoy a virtual treat from me:
