Another shocking Game of Thrones episode

Nothing of medieval interest to me on this date--at least that I can remember. So here is my favorite reviewer's recap of last night's Game of Thrones. Warning: massive spoilers, so read it at your peril. That should have been the warning for the episode itself which had to shock its fans who've not read the books. I am so glad I knew what was to come--knowing how merciless Master Martin can be with characters we love, I couldn't stand the suspense if I had to watch it utterly unprepared. http://tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/game-of-...

Christine It was one of those sections where I too was glad to know what was coming. I went through the emotions of it when I read it so that I could view the television show with a thought of "how will they transfer that to the screen?" and I thought they did a wonderful job!

Sharon I would have hated to watch that scene "cold", Christine. Knowing what was to come helped me to brace for it--somewhat!

Christine Exactly!

Carolina Casas I could not believe it. I have read and re-read the books but even then, it was shocking to say the least. I will leave it at that. And I think the producers knew it and that is why the whole credits went mute except for a real creepy low key music near the end.
Pedro Pascal, you have to hand it to him, did a great job playing the Red Viper. I hate it when he died in the books and on the tv show as well, but this sets the stage for his daughter (especially the three eldest who are amazing in their own right) and other family members, especially the two eldest Martell heirs and their father (Oberyn's brother) Prince Doran.

Wanda I've read the books, but thanks to this recap I was able to look away at the right moments as I watched it last night! Pedro Pascal did a terrific job as Oberyn Martell.

Rebecca Even though I knew the end I was still yelling at the TV screen....'Stick him with the pointy end!'...It was a great scene but did it have to be so graphic?

I also enjoyed watching Jaime's expression as in 'whoa he is really gonna kill that hulk' and the strange glances he was giving Varys....Then the concern on Tywins face as Oberyn yelled 'who gave you the order!'... And yeah. Kudos to Pedro Pascal, he did a brilliant job.

I noticed that expression between Jaime and Varys' too, it is going to lead the biggest shocks and revelations (if they do it like they did in the book where Jaime reveals something painful to Tyrion which makes him angry (and rightly so!) at Jaime and more so at his father) in episode 10 and I say 10 because it looks like episode 9 is going to be focused primarily at the battle for the wall.

Rebecca Yes. I am always careful in comments in case others haven't read the entire series(I have btw). I think episode nine is always dedicated to a battle scene, and it should be good. And though I look forward to the end, it is bittersweet...No more Game of Thrones for another year!....Waaaah lol

I know! It is going to be one long year, especially when we have all the Dornish greatness coming next season (sand snakes and I hope they keep Arianne (who I love) too).
Well, walking dead for me while I wait for next season, I think season 5 is going to be airing this year in the fall and then SVU, which is another series I like. If you like the saga of Ice and Fire, the original Trilogy of Shannara is another I recommend. It's good and heard they will adapt the second book, Elfstones of Shannara for a series -I hope they do.

Thanks Athena. I will look up the Shannara books. As for TV I am waiting on the release of House of Cards the U.S version-I always find politics interesting.

I'm also looking forward to when Maleficent is released on BluRay...I am not a great fan of Angelina Jolie..but this movie looks good and I always find baddies, interesting.

Sharon Rebecca, I'd have loved to watch you yelling, "Stick him with the pointy end!" If it is okay, I'd like to share that with my Facebook readers, most of whom do not participate on Goodreads Arya has come quite a distance since that lesson with Jon, hasn't she?

message 12: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Yes you can share it Sharon:)....The funny thing is I knew what was going to happen and yet....I yelled it out, 'stick him with the pointy end!'

I also watched the reactions on youtube and I do feel for those who have not read the books; it must come as such a shock when a favourite dies.

Arya is one of my favourites and I suppose I do hope that one day she and Jon will meet again. I think they were really close...I know I am on dangerous ground in having favourites, but one cannot help it.

Sorry for the wait....My dog had an op on her leg, she tore a ligament. The op went well, but she needs to sit quiet and be in a warm place...So I haven't been online much this week.....Now I am counting down the hours till the next episode....& biting my nails.

Carolina Casas Oh my, next episode is going to be so epic. When I saw Varys in the tunnel in the preview I was like "Yes it is coming!" epic death and revelation :)
