Help our Doubts

Gen 42:2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.

We reap what we sow. Jacob the former deceiver was now under the lie that Joseph was dead. His conclusions were wrong. His utterances were misplaced, but God remains merciful. God sees our struggles and failings and has not decided to abandon us. He works above our very limited appreciation of His wonderful works. He is indeed a great God. The wrong conclusions of Jacob are based on his incomplete picture.

Jacob says he has heard that there is corn in Egypt but he does not know the greater refreshing truth that Joseph is alive and ruling in Egypt. He has doubts as to whether the Hebrews will be well received by the Egyptians, he has doubts whether the corn will be available and affordable for them – we know this because they had been ravaged also by the famine.

Jacob asks his sons to go and buy. He has doubts of how much they will be able to procure and how long it will last. He does not know that the price has already been paid by Joseph his son that was “dead”. Jacob was already seeing death and had doubts on how long they would be sustained – even if they found food in Egypt … would it be enough, would it be too late … how would they obtain a continued supply for their sustenance. More doubts. Jacob does not know that God has made an elaborate provision to ensure that they do not die, rather they would live the rest of their lives in the best of Egypt.

My God help our doubts for they appear so legitimate. Meanwhile God has made extraordinary provisions ahead for His own. Well in excess of our understanding. A full price has been paid for our salvation, the word is forever settled and we only need to trust it … and we shall not die, rather we shall live to declare the word of God and His praises even until eternity. But today, many want to buy salvation with works or other things. Today, we have doubts if God truly desires to save us – because we are so bad. Today we have doubts if we will live through the issues and problems.

Cast away your doubts. You do not have the full picture of things. Instead believe His word which gives you His revealed agenda. Pray for more understanding and revelation – but meanwhile, simply trust that He whom you have trusted – our Lord Jesus Christ – He will come through. Very soon all the provisions that have been made ahead will soon manifest their purpose. Soon you will be ashamed that you ever doubted Him.

Song.

Faint not, nor fear, his arms are near,

He changeth not, and thou art dear;

Only believe, and thou shalt see

That Christ is all in all to thee.

Prayer: O Lord, Help my doubts. Strengthen my faith. I want to believe. Help me. Amen
