The Ultimate Assignment
Gen 42:2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.
God has assignments for us in different forms, but there is one destiny changing assignment. Often it does not seem to be important but our obedience is so critical now. God may have to surround these assignments with unusual circumstances that will compel us to behave as He wants us to … this is to help us. In this situation, the threat of death looms over the household of Jacob and a desperate move to go to a strange land did not appear to be of any value apart from arresting starvation.
Training our children to be obedient is important. There is a generation that believes parents do not have a role but to just guide and present options to their children. Children are to be instructed in the way of the Lord and especially taught to obey their parents. Parents must seek God and provide Godly example. The house of Jacob is still united, but incomplete in that Joseph was missing. Destiny was about to be fulfilled and the key was obedience to an assignment that looked trivial … but it was the ultimate assignment. I suspect that a generation that is not sensitive to obedience to parents is a generation that will not fulfill its destiny. Obedience is much better than sacrifice. Be accustomed to obeying first rather than packaging gifts to leaders or honoring men of God … our first question to be answered is “Have we listened carefully to all the instructions given to us? Have we obeyed them all?” May God help us to hearken and obey Him always.
Song.
Have Thine own way, Lord, Have Thine own way;
Thou art the Potter; I am the clay.
Mould me and make me After Thy will,
While I am waiting, Yielded and still.
Have Thine own way, Lord, Have Thine own way;
Search me and try me, Master, today.
Whiter than snow, Lord, Wash me just now,
As in Thy presence Humbly I bow.
Have Thine own way, Lord, Have Thine own way;
Wounded and weary, Help me, I pray.
Power, all power, Surely is Thine;
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.
Have Thine own way, Lord, Have Thine own way;
Hold o’er my being Absolute sway.
Fill with Thy Spirit Till all shall see
Christ only, always, Living in me.
Prayer: O Lord, release more grace for obedience to saints all over the world. Amen
