The Devil is in the (Writing) Details

There are some people who always know what is and isn't historically, technically, or otherwise accurate in films, TV, and books. People who can point at the screen and say "that plane/gun/book/procedure isn't right."

I'm kind of in the middle when it comes to those inaccuracies. The story is more important to me overall, but when details are wrong that are so glaring, or would really change the overall plot if they were right, sometimes I can't look away.

The big irritants for me are technical things. Like, how completely improbable it would be with today's technology to be able to infinitely zoom and enhance a photo so you could read the business card sticking out of that guy's pocket who's in the background of that photo.

Yesterday a friend contacted me and asked for information about cyber-spying. A topic I know just enough about to be all geeky fangirl when I talk about it ^_^ But I wasn't just giddy that I got to babble about one of my favorite subjects, I also appreciated that she was doing her research to try and get the details right.

It made me wonder, what else do people want to know? We're writers, right? We like to get the details correct, but none of us can know everything (or maybe some of you do, and I am envious :). So what kind of things do you want to know about, both in general and specifically that would help your writing?

And if I were to feature people talking about these subjects, would you be interested in reading what they had to say? Also, would you be interested in offering your expertise in response to others' questions?
