Oskar Pistorius - Right to a Fair Trial vs Public's Right to Know

South Africa's Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is on trial for murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The sprinter made history at the London Olympics in 2012 when he became the first amputee runner to compete in the Games. He seemed destined to be remembered as a sporting icon, but months later, on 14 February 2013, Pistorius shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a 29-year-old law graduate and model, at his luxury villa in Pretoria. While some are hailing it a victory for media freedom, Pistorius’s defence team insists a live broadcast would infringe on the Paralympian’s right to a fair trial.
