I will be seeing this movie in the near future. I love the series and want to show my support. I hope their will be a second movie. Frostbite is my favorite of the series. So to see it made would be amazing.

This is so great! I can't wait to see it! Ever since I found out (months ago) that there's gonna be a movie I've been counting months, weeks & now days to see it! Of course I don't expect it to be exactly like in the book, but that's ok with me. My sister also has read all the books & we really hope they'll continue & make next one into movie as well :)
As much as I love the VA series (my all-time fave vampire book) I am sorry to say that I am not as excited as everyone else in seeing the movie. From the trailer alone, it looked just another B-rated movie which is easily forgotten and it's so frustrating because VA is legions much better than Twilight and so deserves more recognition. I hope the movie pulls through for the books sake.
I can't wait to watch it! The first trailers were TERRIBLE. It looked like an uncensored bad Disney film waiting to happen. The new trailer looks more true to the book though. I can't wait to watch the movie when it's released in my country.:)
I'm kinda scared because of the trailers that I've seen. I'll take your word for it though and believe you when you say its okay. I'll be going to see it for Valentine's day.
The nearest theater showing the film was almost 50 miles away and I was about to buy tickets anyway and make it a LATE Friday night, when they popped up close to my house! I can't tell you how excited I was... I definitely didn't dig the humorous angle on the trailers, so I'm thrilled to hear that the author herself approves!
I really can't wait even though I wish I could say I was a fan from the start I actually starting reading them immediately after the first time I saw the trailer when I went to see city of bones upon seeing I turned to my friend and said omigosh I am so going to read that! High hopes! :)
Im excited to see this movie but I haven't had a chance to read the books yet and I never see a movie based on a book without reading the book first. Im going to try and sneak it in this weekend.
I really like the books, they are some of my favorites, and I´m really excited about the movie, I will defenetly Watch it :)
Well, in Denmark it comes in April, and I can't even watch it in my area... I don't even know where I'll be able to watch it, so that sucks badly!
Like others have already admitted, I was also a little apprehensive when I first saw the trailers and promos for the VA movie. It does seem more "high school" and humorous than the books feel (especially with the "from the director of Mean Girls" tagline). But reading your review has helped quell my fears and has made me super stoked for the movie once again, Richelle! I'm glad the actors are fairly unheard of, so they don't come into the franchise with any previous film baggage. I really hope it does well so we can see more of Rose, Dimitri, Lissa, and Adrian, and I will definitely be watching this one! Much love <3
Congratulations on your movie release and newest addition to your family! 2014 is a BIG year! Thank you for your personal review for the movie; I respect your critique most because this is your "baby". There is already such a buzz going on about the release, tomorrow is going to be a big opening night! Hope the popularity of your movie inspires more writing! :)
OMG!!! I can't wait until the movie is released in Australia wish it had of been release the same date as America but, we take what we get. I'm really excited and also scared to see the movie as I want the movie to stay true to the books, because I absolutely loved them. But as Richelle has said the movie is amazing, so I so can't wait until the movie is release. I hope the movie does well so in the future we can see more of our favourite characters.
Also Richelle Mead said something about the movie reminding her about how much she loved the characters and that makes her want to write more books about them. I and so many others would love to see more books written in Rose's perspective about how her life is progressing.
All I can say is I can't wait until the movie is release in Australia.

Richelle, you've made me more excited to see this movie. And of course I'll be supporting by watching it several times in Australia.
I'm going to see the movie tomorrow with a few of my friends. We love the books and read them about 2 years ago, so last year when we found out it was going to be made into a movie, we were freaking out! I really hope there's going to be a second movie because in Frostbite we see Eddie and ADRIAN! Lol, cant wait!!!
Me and my friends are going to see it next weekend when it's less crowded. This weekend we are most likely going to go see Frozen.
I just got back from seeing it an it was amazing! School got canceled so I sacrificed a morning of sleeping to see it and was not disappointed! Richelle Mead is right guys, it really stays true to the book.
Me and my friends went at 2:10 and we were the only ones there besides an old man. One of my friends cried from being so happy. The ending was amazing.
Tool my 12 year old daughter an her friends who had read the books as well the 4 of us love it! True to the books and Zoey really is Rose she is brought to life beautifully! Her spunk is perfect! We all agreed that we can't wait for the next one! Job well done. Go see it! 4 1/2 stars!
Anshita wrote: "I don't wanna see the movie. I totally hated the star cast, no offence. Their acting might be good but I imagined Dimka as more sexy and seeing him look so..well, gay on screen ruins the vibe. Plus..." Anshita, that's what me and my friends thought. Zoey just wasn't how we pictured her and since she was on Disney, we had very low expectations. She surpassed them though, in the movie she IS Rose. As for Danila, me and my friends were dissapointed at first, we didn't want him to be Dimitri at all, but he was great! The movie was mostly true to the book, and the ending was almost spot on, except they added a scene. It was amazing though, its totally worth it. I hope they make the second one.
I saw the movie last night. It was opening night at 7:20 about 20 miles outside of Hollywood, Ca. I was one of about 50 people in the theater, not well attended. People laughed at parts that weren't funny because the acting was so bad. The love charm scene with Rose and Dimitri was hilarious because it was so unbelievable. I love this series of books and have read each book three times. Quality wise, the movie doesn't come close to the books. I think the script wasn't bad, but some of the acting and all of the directing were poor. Casting could have been better too.
Dimitri should have been gorgous, tall, lean and muscular, he wasn't. The only thing they got right was his shoulder length dark brown hair and he was Russian. His accent was too strong though.
Surprisingly, the dialog and most of the scenes were right out of the books! So, why was the movie so bad? Direction I think. Also, too many fake Russian accents.
I am so sad that the movie was bad! This could have been another Twilight or Hunger Games movie series success story. If only the production had been better!
With that being said, I took two 13 year old girls and a woman from work with me to see the movie. None of them had read the books, but the teenage girls liked the movie and the adult said she would read the book, even though the movie was bad.
Don't waste your time or money on this film. Just read the series again.
I really liked the movie! It was funny in quite a few parts, and Zoey really embodied everything that I love about Rose. I thought the movie was great and I might even go see it again. I wasn't really sold on the idea of Danila as Dimitri, but I'm definitely feeling better about it after seeing the movie. :) The last scene with Dimitri and Rose had me smiling so big! I loved it.
I have to say I was scared that the movie wouldn't be like the book when I first saw the trailer but I knew that I would see it in hopes that this movie will blow twilight out of the water! The books are so much better than twilight and I really like twilight myself but it's more of a romance than VA is I think. We'll I'm hear to say that my cousin and I made it to the very first showing in our area which was early Friday morning we even hoped to see a midnight showing which turned out not to be happening which we where sad about because we love the books so much and wished that they would have more hype. But we went in with open minds because like most people we didn't think the trailers did the book justice. Turns out the trailers didn't but the movie was awesome. There where a few things added that we like and didn't like, like always since we just reread the books for the millionth time we knew what was different. But we loved the added fight scenes which come on who doesn't. I don't think they showed enough of how much mason fells for rose was one disappointment because his death is so ground changing for her but it does touch on it some and shows that she's not into him more than a friend which we know. So I for one really hope they show more in the next on of her struggles for him because even though we love Dimitri. We are so hoping for a hit so that we can see the rest come alive as well. Congrats on your new baby and to VA coming to life before our eyes. I hope that people who have read the books go to see it even if you thought the trailers really sucked its good and bring every one with you we want frostbite out soon!
The movie stayed true to the book. I loved it!! ♥ I heard a girl say that she loved Mason and couldn't wait till the sequel. XD
It was a good movie. I loved the person who they chose for Rose. She was exactly how i visualized Rose should be. It was right on point!!!
I just saw it yesterday with my mom, and I thought it was amazing. My mom comfessed that she thought it would be slow and boring and was excited when it turned out to be fastpaced and exciting.
I enjoyed it! My mom even enjoyed it but to be honest the trailers were horrible. They did not express what the movie was truly and made it seem cheesy. I hope people notice that the most. Really good version of the book though. Hopefully book 2 will be picked up.
I was really dissappointed when I heard about the movie coming. Cause I so wasn't ready to share this series with the world.. I shed tears, I laughed and I dreamed about this series.. Though reading the review I probably will go and see it. In the Netherlands is coming out the 20th of February. For sure to show support, but sharing wow that's going to be a tough one.. I wan't everybody to love it don't get me wrong, I don't know it's hard to put into words. Will see.. maybe seeing the movie will change my feelings.
My joy when I came to know about the movie knew no bounds. I was super excited about it. But the Indian theaters put a huge damper on it by announcing the release date, which is the 14th of February. Now that's a dampener because my 12th grade annual examination is around the corner, and since it is a pretty important factor for getting into good colleges there's no way I would be able to go to the theaters to see the movie. *cries* I want to see the movie!!
I loved it! They kept all the good snappy humor with the heart that is Rose and Lissa. However, I felt they didn't capture the dark effects of Spirit as well, I mean - she never even really harmed herself. The one scene where she has cuts on her arms isn't even her doing it, and her out-of-control behavior... where was the teetering on the edge of sanity? That's why she starts the anti-depressants in the first place.
OMGosh! I was so excited to go to the movies for my Birthday this year! I can't imagine your excitement, my dd didn't read the books, but is going to now. It was awesome! Congrats!
Just saw it last night. I have to say that I was completely disappointed in the movie and felt that it was more of a parody than anything else. I loved all the books but I didn't like the acting and some of the scenes seemed forced and weird (compulsion and Rose's visions). Also, while reading the books, you feel a strong romantic connection with Rose and Dimitri, but I didn't get that in the movie. That relationship felt awkward in the film. I'll admit I'm an older reader (30's) and not the target audience, but the film could have been so much better. Not interested in the future movies if they are going to be filmed the same way.
I thought that the script itself was fairly good. I was fine with the appearances of the chosen actors. A lot of the fighting scenes were pretty awesome and all of the major plotlines were there... However, I was still somewhat disappointed. Personally, I didn't care for the narration part. It kinda took away from the movie. Show, don't tell. Some of the acting seemed forced as well. It was a bit rough at times. Some of the jokes were kinda bleh as well.Differences from the book that annoyed me...
1. Since when do the Moroi hiss and bare their teeth at people?
2. I really disliked the way that they portrayed Lissa's mood swings. It was more like PMS than mental instability.
3. Lissa's cuts. No, just no. That's not what they're from.
If they make more movies, I will go see them, but I will still prefer the books.
Richelle, I thought the movie was good. The actors did a good job at portraying the characters. I did picture them differently but I felt the actors had the essence in them. I felt that we could do without the narration, the acting and the movie itself was enough for the fans and new movie goers alike. I agree with what I've read from several fans that the acting, humor, and other traits seemed forced and not natural. I also felt that we didn't get enough depth into Roses internal struggles regarding the royalty but her best friend being part of it etc. But most importantly I didn't feel the intense bond between Rose and Lissa. I don't feel the actors are to blame here but the directors/storytellers failed to grasp that important part of the story. If more movies are made I will go see them. Good luck I really hope the rest of the books will be made into movies. Thank you for giving us such wonderful characters that we hold so dear, which is in truth why we are commenting here in the first place.
You guys think late February and March is bad. The UK doesn't get a release until April 23rd! I don't think I've ever seen a movie spread the release dates out so much.
I hate the movie. I was so excited to watch it and yeah it is a comedy, no matter what you say. So many things were changed, things that could have remained the same. If I start to type everything that frustrated me, I think I would ran out of characters before I write half of it. I can't believe that the movie I've been waiting for for 6 years, was the movie I just saw. I still think this was some kind of a joke. I mean seriously? Karp the leader of the strigoi? Mia and Kirova? Lissa and Tatiana? And so on and so on. Yes, I am aware that the events in the book mostly occured in Rose's head, but that didn't mean that they could turn this into some teenage comedy! I am so frustrated right now, you can't even imagine how much.
And I had so high expectations for this movie, because of you Richelle, because of what you said about it. I overlooked the fear that I had after I watched the trailers and it turned out EXACTLY like the trailers.
You will be always one of my favorite writers, and Vampire Academy my most favorite series along with Harry Potter, but I hated the movie. That is the truth.

Lissa's cuts, Dimitri's seriousness, Mia and Kirova, Karps being the leader of the strigoi, which if we let that part out, was still weird cuz the battle occurs in the third book, not the second. And so many other things. Throughout the movie I was like "Are they serious?" all the time.
