I thought it was decent. It was cool on how they did the connection b/w Lissa and Rose. Plus, they actually got Dimitri and Rose scene right.
My boyfriend took me to see VA last night for valentines day :). I'm a fan of the series and he's never read it, but we both enjoyed it very much. Great action scenes, some comic relief and not too confusing for a newcomer to the series. Congrats on your first film, and hope to see more from this series in the future!
I don't know... I did not feel the movie did the book justice at all. The book was total kick ass and what was played out on the screen was a teeny bopper immature movie with a cast that was less then stellar at best and I couldn't help but wonder why dimitri looked like he could've been old enough to be my father...and I'm 30!!! The movie says hey little girls it's ok to date your fathers friends... The books were great but the movie was just inappropriate and rose and dimitri were disturbing to watch.

Sorry but I really don't think people can complain about the actors age not being correct because it's pretty much spot on, 3 years is nothing.
I wasn't referring to how old he actually was... In the movie they made him look 45 ... I've seen other pictures of him when he looked his age not a middle aged man.
Ah right, gotcha. I think it's the hair. He usually wears a shorter style, the longer hair doesn't suit him I don't think.

Dimitri seemed much older while Rose seemed much younger on screen. There was no chemistry between the two. It was just creepy, awkward, and forced.
What's up with the trailer? It didn't even do any justice to the book. I love all six books and I hope I can say the same with the movie/s. But then after reading this, I just know that I will do definitely watch it, thanks to Ms Richelle for helping me make up that decision.
I thought that the movie was great! But i would possibly add more lines from the book and less of their own creative lines. The movie and books are great though.
Sheechiibii wrote: "Ah right, gotcha. I think it's the hair. He usually wears a shorter style, the longer hair doesn't suit him I don't think."It's not even so much the hair... Dimitri was made out to be this god like man who had the ability to haunt dreams and wish you had a guy like that. I always pictured him, his face, his body as perfection... Was so disappointed. The actor is a good looking guy but for some reason in the movie he looked old, unfit, and just not at all what I would've like to see... And Sophia bush or an actress just like her would've been the perfect rose.
Sophie Bush is too old to play Rose, whether she would have played the character well or not. To be honest I never really pictured Dimitri as extremely hot (even though he'd usually be my type). For once in a book I felt like I was hearing how Rose thought of him, not how he actually was if you know what I mean? I pictured Adrian as far hotter and Christian too, even though Rose didn't speak about their being attractive near so much.
I saw the movie during it's opening week and while I absolutely love the books, I was disappointed in the movie. I wasn't worried about it after seeing the trailers because I know that often trailers are misleading. I didn't mind the casting (I loved Rose!) or the changes from the book (well I didn't mind most of them). What bothered me was that it just felt like everyone was trying too hard. The jokes seemed forced. Everything was very fastpaced, but in a bad way. It seemed like it was just one scene after another and you really didn't have time to care about these characters. There was way too much narration by Rose, especially when she was in Lissa's head and commenting the whole time. I was also disappointed in the Strigoi, I didn't think they were nearly scary enough. As many others have commented Lissa's cutting and Karp being in charge of this Strigoi army were changes I wasn't okay with as well. Also, Natalie at the end of the movie was way too sexualized compared to the book. I hate to be so hard on the movie because I really wanted to like it and for it to succeed, but I'm just disappointed because the books are so great and I don't feel this movie represented them as such. If I only saw the movie, I wouldn't be inclined to read the books afterwards. Also with the comedy so played up, I cannot imagine what the sequels would be like. Yes, there is humor in the books, but it's not the main focus, as it felt like it was in the movie. While I am disappointed in the movie, I am in no way disappointed in or blaming Richelle. The blame for me definitely goes to the screenwriter for not translating the book into the movie it should have been. Overall, I would give it 3 stars, it was okay. It did get better as the movie went on and I think it will grow on me in time, but I don't think it will (or should) get a sequel.
Ok, First I have to say I've seen it twice. I couldn't wait for my friend to go with me. That being said, I was nervous based on the trailers. They really made it seem campy and silly and we all know that is not VA. I agree with Ally, I didn't like the frequency of fang flashing and hissing. Even though I was apprehensive about the casting, they all did a great job, except for Headmistress Kirova, sorry not a fan. Mostly I was disappointed by the lack of people in the theaters :-(. I hope it's successful enough to keep making them because this is one of my favorite series of all time! (Excuse the fangirl moment) It's so awesome seeing these characters and story brought to the big screen.
I completely loved the movie! I thought it was well cast, fun and can't wait to see it again. The day this becomes available to buy, I'm there.
does anyone know when we are going to be able to see the movie in a other countries like Argentina? I want to see it!!
The Movie was cancelled in the cinemas in Denmark! With my luck, they will not even release it on DVD! :(

I really hope you get to see if. It was fun.
I never read the series before but after seeing the movie I was totally in love! Since then I have read the whole series. I went to see it twice in theaters and might go again. What can I say? I am hooked :) I hope it does well in the box office because I will be anxiously waiting for the next one.
I like the movie but didnt walk away going wow... I commend the moviemakers trying to stay true to the book, but was left feeling like they rushed it a bit and some characters didnt come across well.. I feel the principle was the worst... she came across more like cruella de ville sorry... but I do think theres hope... the rest of the books are much darker so I hope they are made into movies! I will buy the dvd and maybe when I get to watch it again I will enjoy it more but it did feel like It was aimed more at the younger generation and that it came off a little too light at times
