TIME is not a rhyme

Time is sure a funny being. No one has seen time, but yet it can fly, it can lie, it can run out, and be up. It can be spent, killed, and passed.

In this world where schedules are always tight, assignments are always in sight and headaches are always there to attack, sometimes we feel that we have no time.

“Sorry I’m busy”

“I have no time”

“Too many assignments to be done”

These are normal sayings, or I would say excuses, we hear and say in our daily lives. But the question has to be asked “Are we really busy, busy and busy?”

Are we so busy until we have no time at all for other things?

Let us ponder together.

Everybody is busy

We are all busy. Because of we are always full with this and that. We can give excuses of “Don’t have enough time.”

But something makes me wonder, even though everyone is busy, but why many people can manage time but many others cannot?

If we say we are busy and “Don’t have time”, let’s have Dr. Yusof Al-Qaradawi as an example. He is a host for a program broadcast on Al Jazeera, (“Shariah and Life”), he is a founder of IslamOnline (a popular website), he is this and that (you can check it on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yusuf_al-Qaradawi)

Although he is a “busy” man, he has produced more than 120 books in his life as an 85 year old man. He is not a full-time writer who is tucked nicely in his room spending all his life writing without going out from his room. He is a really “busy” man I would say but then again, he seems to be not a busy man.

If he were to give excuses, he would come out with “better excuses” than we do.

“I have books to write”

“I want to prepare for my speech tonight”

If we are really busy, how many books have we written then?

So don’t be silly, silly! Of course we have time! Lack of time is just another excuse to run away. No matter how busy we are, how much we work or socialize or devote our time to other important projects in our life, we always still have some time left over that we might have been currently wasting!

Kill the time killers

The easiest way to save more time is to eliminate meaningless activities from our life. Limit time and fully utilize that limited time with commitment.

It is pointless seeing people waiting while refreshing their Facebook page after they have posted a new status on their wall. If they want to see people hitting the “Like” button or giving any comments, why not just wait after one hour?

The part that needs improvement is our Nafs which results in attitudinal problems. If we can manage to tame our Nafs, our attitude will not be a problem.

But that needs commitment. Can we not do it?

The art of juggling time

The best word to prescribe managing between tasks is not balancing one task to the other. But the word “juggle” is a better word. This is because, when a juggler is juggling several balls, the same amount of attention and force needs to be applied. If not, the ball will lose its balance and fall.

The best of us are those who are best with time. We should never misuse time.

“Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: None of you should abuse Time for it is Allah Who is the Time, and none of you should call ‘Inab (grape) as al-karm, for karm is a Muslim person.”[1]

Because we are always busy, we need proper time management. If we work without proper management, we might get worn out quickly. We don’t realize that:

“أن الواجبات أكثر من الأوقات”

“Obligations in life are far greater than the time we have to complete them”[2]

In our busy life, we need to allocate also time to rest. A body that is worked continuously will experience fatigue; this will give impact on the heart of someone to be unmotivated from continuing the work.

Saiyidina Ali Abi Thalib said:

”روحوا القلوب ساعة بعد ساعة فإن القلب إذا أكره عمي”

“Relax your heart after sometime it has been used, verily the heart will be blind when it hates something”

It is not encouraged for a Muslim to make efforts out of his capability even though in things related to ibadah. We cannot make sunnah Ibadah until we neglect our other more important responsibilities such as fulfilling our family needs.

Narrated ‘Aisha:

Once the Prophet came while a woman was sitting with me. He said, “Who is she?” I replied, “She is so and so,” and told him about her (excessive) praying. He said disapprovingly, “Do (good) deeds which is within your capacity (without being overtaxed) as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards) but (surely) you will get tired and the best deed (act of Worship) in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.”[3]

We need also to learn how to say “No” to people asking for help because of our limitations. We are the person who knows our strength and weaknesses. It is not that we are reluctant to help people, but we have other things to do. If we say “Yes”, we will suffer the consequences of not finishing our assignments or etc. In dealing with this, I personally remind me this quotation “If we can’t say No, our Yes means nothing.”

Conclusion: Time is not a rhyme

T.I.M.E is only four letters and easy to be said but difficult to be done. It takes all our Time, Independence, Maturity and Energy in fully utilizing T.I.M.E.

Talking about time, I’m not the best person to discuss it. I’ll leave this to you. Your time may not be my time but when the time comes, I want to be with you all the Time I heaven!

TIME is not a rhyme

by: Ameen Misran

What do we say every day?

That makes us all far away,

standing all alone and parting ways.

We claim that we do not have time,

we kept on saying that from time to time,

making it hear like a rhyme.

We say that we are too busy,

too busy and even no time other than study,

as if we are getting ready.

We complain that “Do not bother me!”

“I am a busy man as you can see!”

“Who are you to come to me?”

But what have we done actually?

Please answer me sincerely!

Have we used it effectively?

When you say that time is too rigid,

sounds to me that it is stupid,

as stupid as CUPID,

declaring love to man more than ALLAH like it is so significant.

Why do you say that you do not have time?

When I say all the time is mine?!

MANAGE YOUR TIME and stop your whine.

Stop claiming that same old claim,

if you do that you will sound lame,

like people searching for fame.

 What do they get?

Is it all that they affirm to get?

They get nothing but only regret.

Nothing in time will ever be repeated,

GOING BACK AGAINST TIME is definitely an impossible method,

so that is why we have to CAPTURE the moment.

Hear carefully this rhyme,

remember this until the end of time,

TIME WILL NEVER BE A RHYME.
