Woke up this morning not feeling like myself. I wasn't in a bad mood nor unwell. Rather I was up early but well-rested. Meditated, then leisurely read from a good book while listening to classical and later thought of things serious and profound.
With so many obligations on my day off, I gave me clothes to The Doo Wash Laundromat, and went to my favorite coffee shop to work; write, contact the publisher, the publicist and other writers.
When I arrived to my North Beach secret hiding coffee place, the Asian lady who works there presented me with an envelope. It was from an old, dear friend I've known forever. In it was a friendship card with pictures of books and bookcases on it and inside, a simple paragraph telling me how proud he was of me.
This friend has seen me suicidal, flat-broke and sleeping in parks.
That was really nice, man.
An extraordinarily sweet and kind gesture that only an exceptionally thoughtful friend would even consider.
Thank you doesn't quite cover how the card made me feel.
Want a kidney? I've got an extra one. Seriously, though. Anything you want, it's yours.
Few things in this world more sacred than peaceful mornings and loving friends who relish in your good fortune.
Cherish the fuck out of these moments because they don't happen every day.
