Here is another remarkable story of the bond between man and dog, in this case a guide dog and his blind owner who fainted and fell onto the subway tracks in NYC. People were so moved by the story that they are trying to find a way to make sure the two get to stay together. http://dailynightly.nbcnews.com/_news...
Really hope it happens Sharon. Heard a sad but lovely story about a young soldier husband who was killed last year in Afghanistan. He had given a sealed envelope to his wife and told her he wanted it put on the Christmas tree to be read out on Christmas Day when he would be back home. Sadly he didn't come home, but when his wife took it down from the tree on Christmas Day last year to read it.... it was a very loving Christmas greeting to his wife and two children telling them how much he loved them. Apparently that letter is going up on the tree this year again.
That reminded me, Leila, of the letter that the Civil War soldier, Sullivan Ballou, wrote to his wife before a battle in which he died, telling her how much he loved her and their children. I hope it comforted her, as I hope this soldier's letter does for his wife.
A happy ending for the blind owner and his elderly guide dog, Orlando. Enough donations have come in to cover Orlando’s care once he is retired next year; his owner’s insurance will only cover the expenses for an active guide dog. Guide Dogs for the Blind is handling the donations pouring in and the family who originally raised Orlando said they’d be delighted to take him in if his owner could not cope with two large dogs. http://www.today.com/news/social-medi...
Social media can be a force for good, Leila. There are so many cases like this, when people are touched by someone's plight and respond very generously.
