Autumn and the Cycles of Creation
October has gifted us with gold – in the Harvest Moon, gilded leaves, and slanting rays of sunshine illuminating the busy preparations of the natural world. Make some quiet moments to savor the promise and hidden treasure in these transformative autumn energies. Big changes have been going on for so many of us - Ben and I included - and we need spaces of rest and contemplation to recalibrate before moving forward with grace and ease.
For those of us who resonate with bear medicine, autumn opens the gateway to our dreamtime. The raking out of leaves and final harvest of the season are symbolic of a spiritual and energetic release as we become storehouses for new ideas and make our inner landscape a fertile ground for seeds. As the rotting leaves of former grandeur become shelter and nourishment for nuts and pods and blowing seeds, we lay the groundwork for new beginnings in our lives.
This time of year brings heightened creativity and imaginative power, all the verdant growth of spring beginning here in October and November. As it is in Nature, so it is within us. This is a season for nurturing dreams, making plans, and taking first steps across a shifting plane that changes moment by moment with each gust of wind and bough full of cast away leaves.
As the wheel of the year turns toward winter, we can be conscious of clearing the garden beds of the spirit. Pruning away old spiritual, emotional, and mental growth that no longer serves us makes room for renewal to enter our lives. Under the fallen leaves of the year, find the kernels of your cherished ideas and new hopes.
As Nature prepares for her slumber, clear away time in your schedule for rest, daydreams, and contemplation. This is how we breathe life into dreams, creating our new realities. So, imagine the infinite potential of your world as you wield the rake across the lawn and pile up the russet leaves! Think, dream – and prepare to create anew!
