Sometimes, I need a break: Rest, reading something entertaining in a completely different genre, exercise, etc. Other times, intensive thinking and meditating on the plot and character motivations are necessary. When a break or rumination time don't help, I have to push my way through. The act of writing and doing the work helps me tap into the life stream of the book, and that's when the self-propelling magic happens. Ultimately believing in my voice and message drives me to keep going.(less)

I started my writing career as a poet, and so many artistic impulses always came together when I was freed by the expansive beauty of nature. Wilderness, woods, and quiet nooks in gardens lead to pondering all the deep things of life and the universe - both physical and spiritual. This is the best possible fuel for writing.

Going through challenges makes me want to write - first as a way of organizing and processing my experience and then as a way of seeing the lessons. Distilling wisdom from a process of living, spiritual seeking, and survival lends itself to sharing; I enjoy being able to offer a unique perspective on thriving through career change, grief, life stages, et cetera and on ways to propagate joy and light.

11/11/2020 - SUNRISE IN YOUR HEART

description

Here is an opportunity to look with compassion on the contents of your heart. As dawn clears shadows from night, your directed light erases darkness cast over things too hard to examine, too precious to discard.

Clutching memories, places, things, or old versions of ourselves wrapped in anger, projected resentment, or fear makes stumbling blocks of what could be distilled wisdom. We’ve done a lot Read more of this blog post »

“Women have always cradled within their bodies secret mysteries of life, death, and rebirth and the healing, grounding, and balancing powers of our Mother in the Earth. We have held these mysteries sacred within us as we would carry babies in our wombs.”
Elizabeth Eiler, Singing Woman: Voices of the Sacred Feminine

“In the vessel of your body, you yourself are the world tree, deep roots in the Earth and a crown of stars. Your essence bridges dimensions.”
Elizabeth Eiler, Swift and Brave: Sacred Souls of Animals

“There are mystical, unbreakable bonds between all members of the natural world including humans and animals. Whether or not we remember or acknowledge this relatedness, it still exists.”

“Throughout Mesoamerica it was a common belief that a dog carried the soul of a newly deceased person across a body of water. According to the Aztecs, the first level of the Underworld was a place called Apanoayan (where one crosses the river) or Itzcuintlan (the Place of Dogs).”
Elizabeth Eiler

“For books are not absolutely dead things, but do contain a potency of life in them to be as active as that soul was whose progeny they are; nay, they do preserve as in a vial the purest efficacy and extraction of that living intellect that bred them.”
John Milton, Areopagitica

“A good book is the precious life-blood of a master spirit"―”
John Milton, Areopagitica

“I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and it isn't of much value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them. ”
Boris Pasternak
