Ottawa Geek Market 2013

Good morning, Readers!

I apologise that this post is so very late, despite the fact that my week-long holiday has come to an end.  I had completely forgotten how incredibly, infuriatingly slow this work computer is.

As many of you know, the weekend just past saw me standing at a booth at Ottawa Geek Market.  It was an awesome two-day flea market for all things geeky.  It's a great place to do some early Christmas shopping for the geeks in your family.  As you can imagine, for someone like myself, I had a blast!

Saturday I had help from my Kung Fu brother M.F., who spent the day being my booth babe.  He was also Captain Hammer.  Jealous?  You should be!

Knowing I would be far too tempted to BUY ALL THE THINGS!  I decided to stay at my booth as much as possible.  I didn't do much exploring on Saturday.  I didn't really need to.  To my great surprise, there were a whole whack of cosplayers who showed up.  My booth babe took the majority of photos on Saturday, so I'm waiting on him to send me them, but I managed to get my photo taken with an old-school Wolverine (I mean old school - brown and yellow costume (I freaked out when I saw him and demanded he take a photo with me)) and many other cosplayers.  I was also thrilled to have my photo taken with the Carleton University Quidditch team.  That was fun!

Saturday evening was the monthly meet-up.  Naturally, the venue I selected did not work out.  Because it's me, and these meet-ups seem to be cursed that way!  We ended up just across the street at Quinn's.  It was fun!

Sunday proved a quieter day, so I worked up the courage to walk around and see what was what.  Oh my goodness was there ever some amazing pieces of jewellery, wall decorations, knick-knacksbooks and games up for sale.  I really did want to buy practically everything, but the only money I spent was on a photo shoot with batman (all proceeds go to charities aimed at helping children and youth (like Kid's Help Phone)).  I will be receiving it in the coming weeks, and will post it to the Facebook album I created of the event.

I participated in a book swap with Jen, an awesome Toronto author who had a table there.  I'm really excited to start reading her book.

I finally got to meet Reader M.B. over the weekend.  It's nice to put a face to the name, and Reader B.E. kept me company most of the weekend as well.  Of course, there was the Amazing Flatmate to help out.  Though I didn't make the money back on the table, I didn't really expect to.  This is all part of my advertising budget, really.  And since I prefer to be out and meeting people, I prefer to spend my 'advertising' money on convention tables rather than overpriced newspaper ads and the like.

It was an awesome weekend that I thought would be the last of the year's conventions for me.

Apparently not.  An offer to share a table at Pop Expo from the awesome JenEric Designs had the Amazing Flatmate accept on my behalf.  Now I have to scramble to find the money to pay for that.... and the supply of books to bring.  It wasn't initially in my budget.  I'll figure something out.

Speaking of, here's a weird request, does anyone out there have a stag skull, antlers attached, and or a wolf's skull they want to be rid of?  'Cause I could sure use them for a project of mine!

In other news, the weekend over and myself finally able to relax a little bit, the creative juices started flowing again.  This week, I'll be working on a stag play.  Don't ask.  Just go with it.  And I'll commence the editing of The Winter Wolf, so that I can get it to Beta Reader number two.  I've been promising it since forever ago.  If I finish the stag play in relatively good time, I'll turn once again to Human, where I've had a brainwave about a character I now have to go and make substantial changes to.

I also have to organise this book launch.  I think I'll do that first, or I'll get caught up in the creative process and forget.

I realise it's now well past midday as I'm finishing up this blog post.  To give you an idea about how horribly slow and frustrating this computer is, I started writing this blog two hours ago, but had to continually stop and wait for the computer to load the pictures etc I needed to make this post even vaguely interesting.  I'm about ready to throw the C.P.U. out the damned window.

If my office had a window.

Right.  I have work to do.  Lot's of it.  See you on the other side!

Ciao!
